I Saw God

The
words below were sent by email to me under the pen name, “A Simple Man”. I am
so impressed by these words that I need to share them with you. I will warn you
that the punch line may surprise you, but I believe God often has a way of
reaching us when we are not looking. The following text is exactly as I
received it:
“I
saw God today. I was watching the George Floyd protest in L.A. live on TV.
There he was, a lone man with his hands up standing between looters and someone’s
business. Looking at the lone figure I saw GOD. I thought about that for a few
minutes and realized I have seen it before. The fireman that rushes into a
burning building, the solider who pulls a wounded man to safety, a nurse who
helps a person with an infectious virus, the person who helps a stranger and so
many more acts of God. They are all around us but the static blocks God out.
Where
did we lose our way? Why can we not see it anymore? Has our life got in the
way? Have we ever really seen God? Where has our wonder gone? I cannot remember
the last time I saw a flower and was amazed by the magic in it or looked into a
baby’s eyes and was amazed at what it took to make that life.
What
if we got it wrong? A lot of people in this world are waiting for the end to
get their reward. What if we were already given it and could not see it because
of the static?
We
have had a lot great teachers. Buddha, Jesus, Mohammad, Martin Luther King and
so many more. Was their message lost on us? Could we not hear it because of the
static?
Sitting
here watching the protest on TV I cannot help thinking about what the people
are asking for and why there is a need to be asking. We have everything we need
to make what we have be an amazing place for everyone. We just need to turn off
the static.
It
starts with you and me. Turn off the static. Be kind to each other, love each
other, and help each other. It really is that easy. God is not one big thing.
God is a whole lot of little things we do for each other. I am an atheist and I
saw God today.”
